Coming season at MAD Brussels

Full of creative voices, young talent, and a hundred years of La Cambre

MAD Brussels wraps up a summer full of colour and creativity with an inspiring evening conference by Dutch design studio MAISON the FAUX. Autumn kicks off with the double exhibition Trans-formations and Future Generation. The latter highlights the recent graduates who won the MAD Graduation Prize, while Trans-formations brings together a selection of former students from La Cambre to mark the academy's centenary. November will feature the second edition of the MAD Parcours, a fashion and design walk through Brussels city centre that brings the public into contact with local creative talent. Finally, the year will be rounded off with I Am Knott So MAD, a fashion exhibition celebrating 25 years of designer Jean-Paul Knott.

Summer conference with MAISON the FAUX

28 August from 6.30p.m. to 9p.m.

Lady Gaga wears their pieces. They have shows from New York and Los Angeles to Paris. And in just a few years, the fashion house has grown into an interdisciplinary studio. As part of the Come As You Are exhibition, MAD Brussels will welcome the Dutch duo behind MAISON the FAUX for a summer evening conference on Thursday 28 August. The work of Tessa de Boer and Joris Suk explores the boundary between reality and fiction, with the necessary humour, self-relativisation and a sincere love of fashion.

MAISON the FAUX describes itself as a “creative studio posing as a major couture fashion house”. The studio navigates between performance, fashion design, costume and scenography, and is known for collaborations with queer performers and drag artists. In the past, they have dressed Drag Couenne, among others, who is the central figure in the exhibition Come As You Are. During this conference, the designers will provide insight into their career paths, sources of inspiration and their vision of fashion as a form of expression and a platform for identity, resistance and imagination.

Double exposition Trans-formations & Future Generation: The Mad Graduation Show

Exhibition from 3 October to 15 November

On October 3rd, MAD Brussels will kick off the double exhibition Trans-Formations and Future Generation: the Mad Graduation Show. In the run-up to its centenary in 2027, the École nationale supérieure des arts visuels de La Cambre (ENSAV), founded by Henry van de Velde, is putting its alumni in the spotlight through a series of exhibitions. To this end, La Cambre and Les Amis de La Cambre are joining forces with the CID – centre for innovation and design and MAD Brussels. The Trans-formations exhibition is dedicated to former students of industrial design, textile design, interior architecture and accessories. Fifteen projects show how former students such as Jean-François D'Or, Diane Steverlynck, Studio BISKT and KRJST are building bridges between different worlds. They combine craftsmanship with science, art with technology, and add marketing or even artificial intelligence to their creative process. Among other things, a prototype of the Spa bottle, stimulating jewellery and innovative textiles are on display.

From a public urinal for women to a subtle aluminium storage system. Following its annual tradition, the group exhibition Future Generation: The MAD Graduation Show presents the winners of the MAD Graduation Prize 2025 to the public and showcases their graduation projects. No fewer than seven institutions are represented in the exhibition: Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles, College of Art and Design, Ateliers Saint Luc, École supérieure des arts Saint Luc, Haute Ecole Francisco Ferrer, La Cambre and LUCA School Of Arts. From textile design and interior design to industrial product development and fashion design, a total of 14 winners are honoured.

MAD Parcours - Downtown Edition

Fashion and design walk from 12 November to 15 November

Following a successful first edition, MAD Parcours returns this autumn. From 12 to 15 November, MAD Brussels is organising a four-day fashion and design walk in the heart of the city. Visitors are invited to (re)discover Brussels through a route that takes them past shops, studios, showrooms, galleries and unexpected places. This year, MAD Parcours also offers themed routes, allowing each visitor to discover local talent at their own pace, from artisan designers to contemporary collectible design. The event brings together creative makers, local businesses and the public, focusing on collaboration, visibility and sustainable consumption, just in time for the festive season.

I am Knott so MAD

Exhibition from 28 November to 31 January

Jean-Paul Knott is celebrating the 25th anniversary of his eponymous fashion brand. The Brussels-based designer, who launched his own label in 2000, gained extensive experience at Yves Saint Laurent and also worked as artistic director at Krizia, Louis Féraud and Cerruti. The costumes he designed for Maurice Béjart's ballets did not go unnoticed either. Knott effortlessly blends masculine and feminine elements, as well as prêt-à-porter and couture. He combines quality and elegance with originality and exclusivity. In the retrospective exhibition I am Knott so MAD, he showcases 25 years of fashion in collaboration with numerous artists who constantly challenged him to explore new dimensions in his creations.
