Youth Through the Lens
Young Fashion Photography - exhibition from 16 September to 5 November
From 16 September to 5 November, MAD Brussels presents Youth through the Lens - Young Fashion Photography, an exhibition that explores Generation Z's view of the contemporary world of fashion. At the centre of the exhibition is a series of photographs by seven photographers that are fully in line with the core values of MAD Brussels: sustainability and inclusiveness.
Young people who belong to Generation Z attach great importance to individual expression. They want to stand out from the crowd and therefore need not only personalised products, but also luxury products. With social media as a creative tool, this generation represents a viral and visual culture of self-expression. However, it is also a generation that is growing up in times of great social unrest due to the economic crisis, climate change and political conflicts. As a result of this turmoil, these young people place great value on the themes of sustainability, diversity and openness.
Generation Z is a generation that is becoming the largest and most diverse there is. It is a generation that represents 2.5 billion people who were born between 1996 and 2010 and have been scrolling on Instagram since childhood. This use has led to a generation with a keen eye that uses social networks as much as a social space as a creative tool. Emojis, memes, stories, reels, gen.Z embodies this viral visual culture of self-expression at the service of the collective. Having grown up in a digital world, they can no longer imagine life without the Internet. Yet in their photography, they revert to analogue techniques from the past.
MAD Brussels presents Youth Through The Lens - Young Fashion Photography, an exhibition of fashion photography from gen.Z about gen.Z. Get to know the work of seven young Brussels photographers, named Antoine Roland, Gordon Jordan Nyimi, Maxime Dupont, Noah Dechamps, Paul-Louis Godier, Shania Semeli, Safa et Marwa Naji, and discover, through their images, a generation that is overturning the current culture.
